Full Details

Nepal boasts some of the most outstanding mountain ranges in the world, but it is also home to cheerful, resourceful communities whose way of life has remained relatively unchanged over time. This trek will take you through superb scenery and place you at the heart of village life, deep in the mountains.

You will be met at Kathmandu airport by our representative who will take you to your accommodation and get you settled in.  The following day, after a full trek briefing, we give you a guided tour of the enchanting winding streets and temples of Kathmandu.  You will then enjoy 7 days of guided trekking in the famously beautiful Annapurna conservation area, with its high peaks and unique spiritual atmosphere. Your homestays are based in Ghalelgaun and Pakhrikot, where villagers have made a conscious effort to preserve their traditional way of life and avoid the damaging effects of tourism.  The trek ends at lakeside Pokhara.  Like Kathmandu, it’s a bustling urban centre, where you’ll be able to experience a different side to Nepali life – much less peaceful, but just as fascinating!

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu: 1300m/4265ft

You will be met at the airport and taken to your hotel. Our representative will get you settled in and give you a basic introduction to the local area. O/N Hotel in Kathmandu

Day 2: Briefing and Sightseeing

After breakfast you will have a full briefing to prepare you for the trek, including kit, conditions, health and safety.  In the afternoon we take you for a guided tour of this fascinating medieval city. O/N Hotel

Day 3:  Drive to Besisahar. Trek to Baglungpani (1250m) 5 hours trekking

We set off early to drive to Besisahar.  It’s a long, but scene-packed journey following the river Trisuli with its powerful rapids and impressive gorges.  Once in Besisahar our trek begins with a 4-5 hour ascent to Baglungpani, an old Gurung village . We will spend the night there, enjoying panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.  O/N Lodge in Baglungpani

Day 4: Baglungpani – Ghale Gaun (2100m) 6 hours trekking

The trek continues, crossing the Marshyangdi river and climbing upwards to Simpani village.  After lunch, we will explore the village before continuing on to Ghale Gaun. The area is rich in wildlife and we might be lucky enough to see a leopard, bear or monkeys as we go.  Ghale Gaun is a beautifully preserved village which has held on to its old traditions, whilst welcoming tourists.  This village specialises in offering homestay accommodation to tourists, ‘sharing out’ visitors so that each house will get opportunity to host a guest.  You will enjoy locally-produced organic food and wine and be entertained with traditional music and dance.  You can also visit the beautiful temple Uttar Kaniya while you are there. O/N Homestay in Ghale Gaun

Day 5: Ghale Gaun – Bhujung 3.5 hours trekking

After a delicious breakfast of fresh bread, eggs or honey, the local women will conduct a farewell ceremony, with garlands, singing and dancing.  We then trek on to Bhujung following an easy path with lush scenery and more charming villages on the way.  Bhujung is a large Gurung village with around 300 houses.  Ecology is high on the agenda here and local people have built their own hydro-electric facility, powered by a stunning waterfall.  There is no homestay arrangement here, so we will stay in a lodge. However, your evening will be very similar to the previous one, with traditional food, wine, song and dance.  O/N in Lodge in Bhujung.

Day 6: Bhujung – Pasgaun (1636m) 5 hours trekking

After breakfast, you will enjoy another traditional farewell ceremony.  We then continue along the river Bhujung Khola, eventually entering the jungle and climbing steadily to the top of a hill, 2500m – the highest point of our trek.  After lunch we continue downhill to reach Pasgaun, another well-preserved village. O/N Lodge in Pasgaun

Day 7: Pasgaun – Pakhrikot (1305m) 4 hours trekking

We leave Pasgaun and continue down to Bagaiecha Garden where you can swim in the river and relax over lunch. We then ontinue through idyllic scenery and villages to Rabidada for a well-earned rest.  We then carry on to Pakhrikot village, where we will be welcomed with garlands and housed with local families for the night. This will be your last night with your trekking crew (except your Guide).  The crew will join you for a farewell ceremony with Nepali song and dance. O/N Homestay in Pakhrikot.

Day 8: Pakhrikot – Thumsikot (1025m) –  Pokhara 3 hours trekking, 2 hours drive

The final day of our trek.  After breakfast we trek downhill for 3 hours to Thumsikot.  From there we take a scenic 2 hour bus ride to Pokhara. O/N Hotel in Pokhara.

Day 9: Day at leisure: 820m

Pokhara is a very popular destination for visitors to Nepal, due to its beautiful lakeside location and proximity to the mountains.  You have the day at leisure to visit local sights, go boating on Phewa Lake or try paragliding!  O/N Hotel in Pokhara.
